This Halloween Margarita Tequila Cocktail is a festive, spooky twist on the classic margarita, featuring tequila, orange liqueur, fresh lime juice, and a splash of berry syrup for a dramatic color and bold flavor. It’s quick to make, crowd-pleasing, and perfect for any Halloween party or cozy night in.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 oz (60 ml) blanco tequila
  • 1 oz (30 ml) triple sec or orange liqueur
  • 1 oz (30 ml) fresh lime juice (about 1 medium lime)
  • 1/2 oz (15 ml) simple syrup
  • 1/2 oz (15 ml) black currant or blackberry syrup (or pomegranate syrup as substitute)
  • Black lava salt or regular kosher salt (for rimming)
  • Ice
  • Garnishes: lime wheels, blood orange slices, blackberries, gummy worms, or plastic spiders (for decoration only)

Instructions

  1. Pour a tablespoon of black lava salt or regular salt onto a small plate. Run a lime wedge around the rim of each glass, then dip the rim into the salt to coat. Set aside.
  2. Squeeze fresh limes to yield 1 oz (30 ml) of juice per cocktail.
  3. Into a cocktail shaker, combine tequila, triple sec or orange liqueur, fresh lime juice, simple syrup, and black currant or blackberry syrup. Fill the shaker halfway with ice.
  4. Shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds, until the shaker feels icy cold.
  5. Fill prepared glasses with fresh ice. Strain the margarita mixture into each glass.
  6. Garnish with your choice of lime wheel, blackberries, or a gummy worm. Serve immediately.

Notes

For a non-alcoholic version, replace tequila and orange liqueur with sparkling water and a splash of orange juice. Adjust sweetness and tartness to taste by varying the simple syrup and lime juice. For a dramatic look, mix food-grade activated charcoal with the salt for rimming. Batch the base ahead for parties and shake individual servings with ice for best texture.
