A quick and easy caramel apple treat perfect for fall, featuring tender apples coated in a creamy, buttery caramel sauce with warm spices.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium-sized firm apples (Honeycrisp or Fuji recommended)
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup (packed, about 200g) brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) heavy cream (full-fat; can substitute with coconut cream for dairy-free)
  • 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Optional: pinch of ground nutmeg or cloves

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry apples thoroughly. Remove cores and slice each apple into 8 uniform wedges about 1/2-inch thick. Set aside on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  2. In a medium heavy-bottomed saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar and cook until mixture bubbles gently, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Slowly pour in heavy cream while stirring continuously. Add maple syrup, vanilla extract, cinnamon, salt, and optional nutmeg or cloves. Stir until smooth and glossy, keeping heat at medium-low.
  4. Remove saucepan from heat. Gently toss apple slices in the warm caramel sauce until well-coated.
  5. Arrange coated apple slices on a serving platter or baking sheet. Serve immediately warm or chill in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes for a firmer caramel coating.

Notes

Use firm apples like Honeycrisp or Fuji for best texture. Stir constantly to prevent caramel from burning or crystallizing. If caramel thickens too much, gently rewarm on low heat. For dairy-free, substitute butter with coconut oil and heavy cream with coconut cream. Serve warm for gooey texture or chilled for chewier caramel.
