These baked apple fritters are a lighter, easier, and equally delicious alternative to traditional fried fritters, perfect for crisp fall mornings and gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups peeled and diced apples (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the melted butter, milk, egg, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix—it’s okay if the batter looks slightly lumpy.
  5. Gently fold in the diced apples using a spatula. The batter will be thick and chunky.
  6. Using a large spoon or ice cream scoop, drop mounds of the batter onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each fritter.
  7. Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the fritters are golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  8. While the fritters bake, prepare the glaze. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Adjust the consistency by adding more milk if needed.
  9. Once the fritters are done, let them cool on a rack for 10 minutes. Drizzle the glaze generously over the warm fritters. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

[‘Don’t overmix the batter to avoid dense fritters.’, ‘Use firm apples like Honeycrisp or Granny Smith for the best texture.’, ‘Drizzle the glaze while the fritters are still warm for the best results.’, ‘Adjust the sweetness of the batter based on the sweetness of your apples.’, ‘Check the fritters a few minutes early to avoid overbaking.’]
