  • 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) sour cream
  • 1 cup (100 g) sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 cup (50 g) everything bagel seasoning
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh chives
  • 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • Optional: 1/4 cup (30 g) crumbled bacon

Instructions

  1. Soften the cream cheese by leaving it at room temperature for at least 30 minutes or microwave in 10-second bursts without melting.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, sour cream, and shredded sharp cheddar. Mix with an electric mixer on medium speed for 2–3 minutes until smooth but still slightly textured.
  3. Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and chopped chives. Fold in crumbled bacon if using. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
  4. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes to firm up the mixture.
  5. Scoop the mixture onto parchment paper or plastic wrap and shape into a 6-inch diameter ball. Wrap tightly and chill for 1 to 2 hours to set.
  6. Pour everything bagel seasoning into a shallow dish. Optionally mix in crushed toasted nuts or seeds for extra texture.
  7. Remove the cheese ball from the fridge, unwrap, and roll it gently in the everything bagel seasoning until fully coated. Press lightly to adhere the seasoning.
  8. Place the coated cheese ball on a serving plate, cover loosely, and chill for another 30 minutes to let flavors meld.
  9. Bring the cheese ball out about 15 minutes before serving to soften slightly for easier spreading.

Notes

If the cheese ball is too soft to shape, freeze for 10–15 minutes to firm up without freezing solid. Press seasoning gently to prevent it from falling off. Avoid overmixing to keep a creamy but textured consistency. Can be made ahead and chilled up to 2 days. Freezes well for up to 2 months.
