A quick and easy homemade cinnamon toast recipe featuring crispy edges and a buttery cinnamon-sugar center, perfect for breakfast, snacks, or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 slices sturdy white or whole wheat bread (day-old bread works great for extra crunch)
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (can substitute coconut sugar)
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine 1/2 cup granulated sugar, 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Stir well.
  3. Melt 6 tablespoons unsalted butter gently and let cool slightly. Stir in 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract if using.
  4. Place bread slices on the prepared baking sheet and toast in the oven for 3-4 minutes until just golden.
  5. Using a pastry brush, spread melted butter evenly over one side of each toast slice.
  6. Generously sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over the buttered side of each slice and press lightly to adhere.
  7. Bake the slices again for 8-10 minutes, rotating the pan halfway through for even browning. Watch closely to avoid burning.
  8. Transfer toast slices to a wire rack and cool for 5 minutes to maintain crispiness.

Notes

Use sturdy, day-old bread for best crispiness. Press cinnamon sugar into buttered toast to help caramelize. Cool on wire rack to prevent sogginess. Adjust oven temperature if sugar burns. For dairy-free, substitute butter with vegan margarine or coconut oil.
