decadent chocolate fondue for two - featured image

A creamy, smooth, and easy-to-make chocolate fondue perfect for romantic evenings or cozy dessert moments. Made with simple ingredients and ready in under 15 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 ounces (170 grams) high-quality dark chocolate, chopped finely
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) heavy cream, full-fat
  • 1 tablespoon (14 grams) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup for added sweetness

Instructions

  1. Chop the chocolate finely to help it melt evenly and quickly. (5 minutes)
  2. Pour 1/2 cup heavy cream into a small saucepan and heat over medium-low heat until it starts to simmer with tiny bubbles around the edge. Do not boil or scorch. (3-4 minutes)
  3. Remove the cream from heat and immediately add the chopped chocolate. Let it sit for about 1 minute to soften naturally. (1 minute)
  4. Stir gently with a whisk or silicone spatula in slow circles until fully melted and glossy. Keep stirring if lumps remain. (2-3 minutes)
  5. Add 1 tablespoon softened unsalted butter, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Mix until butter is melted and incorporated. (1-2 minutes)
  6. If desired, stir in 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup to sweeten. Taste and adjust sweetness. (optional, 1 minute)
  7. Pour the warm chocolate fondue into a fondue pot or small serving bowl. Light a tea light or small candle underneath if using a fondue pot to keep warm without overheating. (2 minutes)
  8. Serve immediately with dippers such as strawberries, marshmallows, pound cake cubes, banana slices, pretzels, or biscotti.

Notes

Use gentle heat and patience to avoid grainy or burnt chocolate. Finely chop chocolate for even melting. If fondue thickens as it cools, gently rewarm over low heat or microwave in short bursts, stirring frequently. Stir gently to maintain glossy texture. Prepare dippers ahead of time for smooth serving. Keep fondue warm with a tea light or small candle under the fondue pot.
