These candied carrots are a perfect balance of buttery sweetness, a hint of spice, and the natural flavor of carrots shining through. They make an irresistible side dish for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Fresh carrots, peeled and sliced into rounds or sticks
  • 2 tablespoons (28 g) unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup (50 g) brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) water
  • Optional garnish: Fresh parsley or chives

Instructions

  1. Peel and slice the carrots into rounds or sticks, aiming for uniform sizes to ensure even cooking.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add 2 tablespoons (28 g) of unsalted butter and let it melt completely.
  3. Once the butter is melted, stir in 1/4 cup (50 g) of brown sugar. Stir until the sugar begins to dissolve and forms a smooth glaze.
  4. Add the carrots to the skillet and toss them gently to coat in the glaze.
  5. Sprinkle in 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon and a pinch of salt. Stir to combine.
  6. Pour in 1/4 cup (60 ml) of water. Cover the skillet with a lid and let the carrots simmer for about 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Remove the lid and cook for another 5–7 minutes, letting the glaze thicken and coat the carrots entirely. The carrots should be tender but not mushy.
  8. Transfer the candied carrots to a serving dish and garnish with chopped parsley or chives, if desired.

Notes

Don’t overcrowd your skillet to ensure even cooking. Stir frequently to prevent the sugar from burning. Adjust sweetness to your preference by adding more or less brown sugar.
