A quick and easy stir fry featuring ground beef, crisp broccoli, and a sticky honey garlic sauce, perfect for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound (450g) ground beef, preferably 80/20 for juiciness
  • 4 cups fresh broccoli florets (about 300g), washed and chopped
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (or avocado oil for a healthier fat)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) honey
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons cold water

Instructions

  1. Mince the garlic and grate the ginger. Chop the broccoli into bite-sized florets. Measure out the sauce ingredients and whisk them together in a small bowl, combining honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes if using. Mix the cornstarch slurry separately and set aside. (10 minutes)
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in your skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef, breaking it up with a spatula. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned and no longer pink. Drain excess fat if needed. (7 minutes)
  3. Push the beef to one side and add the remaining 1 tablespoon of oil. Toss in the garlic and ginger, stirring for about 30 seconds until fragrant but not burnt. (1 minute)
  4. Stir in the broccoli florets, tossing to coat in the oil and aromatics. Cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring often, until broccoli is bright green and just tender but still crisp. (4 minutes)
  5. Give your honey garlic sauce a quick stir and pour it over the beef and broccoli. Toss everything together thoroughly. Then add the cornstarch slurry and stir constantly for a minute or two until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy. (2-3 minutes)
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed — add more soy sauce for saltiness or more honey for sweetness. Serve immediately over steamed rice or noodles. (1 minute)

Notes

Do not overcrowd the pan to keep broccoli crisp. Add cornstarch slurry gradually to avoid lumps. Drain excess fat from beef to prevent greasiness. Use medium-high heat to brown beef without burning garlic. Rest stir fry for a minute off heat to thicken sauce further.
