Quick and flavorful Italian sub sandwich roll-ups with layers of deli meats, cheese, fresh veggies, and Italian dressing, perfect for a fuss-free meal or casual entertaining.

Ingredients

  • Large sandwich wraps or flour tortillas (10-inch size recommended)
  • Thinly sliced Italian deli meats (e.g., Genoa salami, pepperoni, ham) – about 4 oz (115 g) total
  • Provolone cheese slices – 2 to 3 slices per roll-up
  • Shredded iceberg lettuce or romaine – 1 cup (loosely packed)
  • Tomato, thinly sliced – 1 medium (optional)
  • Red onion, thinly sliced – a few rings
  • Banana peppers or mild pepperoncini – 2 tablespoons, sliced
  • Classic Italian dressing – 2 to 3 tablespoons
  • Salt and freshly cracked black pepper to taste
  • Dried oregano or Italian seasoning – a light sprinkle
  • Optional extras: fresh basil leaves, sliced olives (1 tablespoon), chopped sun-dried tomatoes (1 tablespoon)

Instructions

  1. Thinly slice the tomato, red onion, banana peppers, and any optional extras like olives or sun-dried tomatoes. Shred the lettuce if not pre-shredded. Lay out the sandwich wraps on a clean surface or large plate.
  2. Place about 4 ounces (115 g) of the Italian deli meats evenly over each wrap, leaving about a 1-inch border around the edges. Overlap the slices slightly.
  3. Lay 2 to 3 slices of provolone cheese over the meats.
  4. Evenly distribute the shredded lettuce, tomato slices, red onion rings, and banana peppers over the cheese layer. Pat lightly.
  5. Spoon 2 to 3 tablespoons of classic Italian dressing over the veggies. Sprinkle a light pinch of salt, freshly cracked black pepper, and dried oregano or Italian seasoning.
  6. Starting from one edge, carefully but firmly roll the wrap up into a tight cylinder. Secure with a toothpick or wrap tightly in parchment paper if needed.
  7. Wrap the roll-ups in plastic wrap and chill for 15 to 20 minutes. Slice into 1-inch (2.5 cm) pinwheels for serving or enjoy whole.

Notes

Chilling the roll-ups before slicing helps them hold their shape and makes slicing easier. To avoid sogginess, drain veggies on paper towels before assembly or use thicker wraps. Dressing can be added just before serving to keep wraps fresh longer. Store wrapped tightly in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Not recommended for freezing.
