This Korean ground beef bowl is a quick and easy weeknight dinner packed with bold flavors, ready in just 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups cooked jasmine or white rice
  • Optional toppings: sesame seeds, shredded carrots, sliced cucumbers

Instructions

  1. Cook your rice according to package instructions. Set aside and keep warm.
  2. Heat your skillet over medium heat and add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  3. Push the beef to one side of the skillet and add garlic and ginger to the empty space. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes. Pour the mixture over the beef and stir to combine.
  5. Let the beef and sauce simmer for 3-5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken slightly.
  6. Serve the beef mixture over cooked rice. Top with sliced green onions and any optional garnishes like sesame seeds or shredded carrots.

Notes

[‘Use fresh garlic and ginger for the best flavor.’, ‘Adjust the spice level by adding red pepper flakes gradually.’, ‘Double the recipe for meal prep as it freezes well.’, ‘If the sauce is too thick, add a splash of water. If too thin, simmer longer.’]
