  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) sour cream
  • 3/4 cup (150 g) granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup (50 g) packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 3/4 cups (220 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (175 g) semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, mash 3 ripe bananas with a fork or potato masher until smooth but slightly chunky (about 1 cup mashed).
  3. Add 1/2 cup sour cream, 3/4 cup granulated sugar, 1/4 cup packed brown sugar, 2 large eggs, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract to the bananas. Mix gently until combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
  5. Fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients in two additions, mixing gently with a spatula until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Fold in 1 cup chocolate chips evenly throughout the batter.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
  8. Bake for 55-65 minutes, checking at 55 minutes by inserting a toothpick in the center. It should come out with a few moist crumbs but no wet batter. Tent with foil if the top browns too quickly.
  9. Let the bread cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Use ripe bananas with brown spots for best flavor and moisture. Do not overmix the batter to keep the bread tender. If the bread browns too quickly, tent with foil. Let the bread cool before slicing to prevent crumbling. For gluten-free, substitute flour with a 1:1 gluten-free blend. For dairy-free, use coconut yogurt or dairy-free sour cream alternative. Nuts or dried fruit can be added with chocolate chips.
