A quick and easy bourbon peach BBQ sauce that balances sweet, smoky, and tangy flavors, perfect for grilled chicken and other dishes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large ripe peaches, peeled and diced (or 1 cup frozen peaches, thawed)
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) bourbon
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons (45 ml) apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons (25 g) brown sugar, packed
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Peel and dice 2 large ripe peaches into small chunks. If using frozen peaches, thaw fully and drain excess liquid. (About 5 minutes)
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the diced peaches and cook for 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they soften and start releasing juices. (5 minutes)
  3. Pour in 1/4 cup (60 ml) bourbon carefully, stirring to combine. Let it simmer for 2 minutes to cook off the alcohol and let the flavors meld. (2 minutes)
  4. Add 1/2 cup (120 ml) ketchup, 3 tablespoons (45 ml) apple cider vinegar, and 2 tablespoons (25 g) brown sugar to the pan. Stir well to combine everything smoothly.
  5. Sprinkle in 1 teaspoon smoked paprika, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon onion powder, 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper, and 1/2 teaspoon salt. If desired, add 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes. Stir to blend all spices evenly.
  6. Lower the heat to medium-low and let the sauce simmer gently for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally until thickened and glossy.
  7. Remove the sauce from heat. Optionally, blend with an immersion blender or regular blender until smooth, or leave chunky as preferred.
  8. Let the sauce cool to room temperature before using. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week.

Notes

Use ripe fresh peaches for best flavor; frozen peaches work well too. Adjust sweetness and acidity by tasting and adding more vinegar or sweetener as needed. Brush sauce on grilled chicken during last 5 minutes to avoid burning. Sauce thickens as it cools. Store in airtight container refrigerated up to one week. For vegan version, substitute ketchup with tomato paste and maple syrup mix and verify bourbon brand is vegan-friendly.
