These heart shaped PB&J sandwiches are a fun, nostalgic twist on the classic peanut butter and jelly, perfect for lunchboxes, parties, or special occasions. Quick to make, customizable, and always a crowd-pleaser, they bring smiles to kids and adults alike.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 slices sandwich bread (white, whole wheat, or gluten-free)
  • 4 tablespoons creamy peanut butter (or almond butter, sunflower seed butter for nut-free)
  • 4 tablespoons fruit jelly or jam (strawberry, grape, raspberry, or your favorite)
  • Optional: thinly sliced bananas
  • Optional: chia seeds
  • Optional: honey drizzle

Instructions

  1. Lay out bread slices, peanut butter, jelly, and heart shaped cutter on a clean cutting board.
  2. Spread 1 tablespoon peanut butter on 4 slices of bread, reaching all the way to the edges.
  3. Spread 1 tablespoon jelly or jam on the other 4 slices, also to the edges. Add optional banana slices, chia seeds, or honey if desired.
  4. Press together one peanut butter slice and one jelly slice to form a sandwich. Pat gently.
  5. Use a heart shaped cutter to cut out heart shapes from each sandwich. Alternatively, trace and cut with a sharp knife.
  6. Set aside bread crusts for croutons or breadcrumbs.
  7. Arrange heart shaped sandwiches on a platter or pack into lunchboxes.
  8. Optional: Toast sandwiches in a toaster oven at 350°F for 2-3 minutes for a warm, gooey treat.
  9. If cutter sticks, dust edges with flour or wipe with a damp cloth between cuts.
  10. For big batches, set up an assembly line: spread all peanut butter, then all jelly, then combine and cut.

Notes

Use soft, fresh bread for best results. Spread peanut butter first to prevent sogginess. For allergy-friendly versions, use sunflower seed butter and gluten-free bread. Chill assembled sandwiches for 10 minutes before cutting for cleaner shapes. Toasting after cutting adds a warm, gooey twist. Sandwiches can be made ahead and stored in the fridge or freezer.
