Rich, fudgy brownies with a crackly top that are easy to make and taste like they came from a gourmet bakery. Perfect for any occasion!

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup (50g) brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup (60g) all-purpose flour
  • ⅓ cup (40g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup (90g) chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving a little overhang for easy removal.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together melted butter and granulated sugar until smooth.
  3. Add brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. Whisk until the mixture is glossy and well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, and salt.
  5. Slowly fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture using a spatula. Be careful not to over-mix.
  6. If desired, gently fold in chocolate chips or your favorite mix-ins.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan, spreading evenly with your spatula.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the edges are set and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  9. Let the brownies cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then lift them out using the parchment paper. Cool completely before slicing for clean edges.

Notes

[‘For extra fudgy brownies, err on the side of under-baking. The residual heat will finish cooking them as they cool.’, ‘Use high-quality cocoa powder for deeper chocolate flavor.’, ‘Room temperature eggs help create a smoother texture.’, ‘Cool completely before slicing for neat edges.’]
