Ingredients

  • Red Layer: 1 cup strawberry or cherry-flavored gelatin powder
  • Red Layer: 1 cup boiling water
  • Red Layer: ½ cup cold water
  • Red Layer: ¼ cup vodka (or lemon-lime soda for kid-friendly version)
  • White Layer: 1 cup unflavored gelatin powder
  • White Layer: 1 cup boiling water
  • White Layer: ½ cup sweetened condensed milk
  • White Layer: ¼ cup vodka (optional, or coconut milk for non-alcoholic)
  • Blue Layer: 1 cup blue raspberry-flavored gelatin powder
  • Blue Layer: 1 cup boiling water
  • Blue Layer: ½ cup cold water
  • Blue Layer: ¼ cup vodka (or lemon-lime soda for non-alcoholic)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Red Layer: Dissolve 1 cup strawberry or cherry gelatin powder in 1 cup boiling water, whisk until fully dissolved (1–2 minutes). Stir in ½ cup cold water and ¼ cup vodka. Pour about 1 inch of the red mixture into each shot glass. Place on a baking sheet and refrigerate for 30 minutes or until firm.
  2. Prepare the White Layer: Dissolve 1 cup unflavored gelatin in 1 cup boiling water, stirring well to avoid lumps. Mix in ½ cup sweetened condensed milk and ¼ cup vodka (or coconut milk for non-alcoholic). Remove shot glasses from fridge and gently pour white layer over set red layer using a spoon to avoid mixing. Refrigerate for 30 minutes to set.
  3. Prepare the Blue Layer: Dissolve 1 cup blue raspberry gelatin powder in 1 cup boiling water, whisk thoroughly. Add ½ cup cold water and ¼ cup vodka. Carefully pour blue mixture over set white layer using a spoon. Refrigerate at least 2 hours or overnight until fully set.
  4. Serving: Garnish with fresh berries or a small American flag toothpick if desired. Keep refrigerated until ready to serve.

Notes

Make sure each layer is fully set before adding the next to keep colors crisp. Use a spoon to gently pour layers to avoid mixing. If layers set slowly, place tray in freezer for 10–15 minutes but watch closely to avoid freezing. Use room temperature vodka for smooth blending. Non-alcoholic versions can substitute vodka with lemon-lime soda or sparkling water. Dairy-free option: replace sweetened condensed milk with full-fat coconut milk.
