A fun and festive turkey-shaped cheese ball appetizer combining creamy cheese, crunchy pecans, and fresh veggies, perfect for holiday gatherings and casual parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups (200 g) sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup (100 g) chopped pecans
  • Sliced black olives (for eyes)
  • Red bell pepper strips (for the turkey’s wattle)
  • Celery sticks or carrot sticks (to mimic feathers)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine softened cream cheese, shredded sharp cheddar, and mayonnaise. Stir gently but thoroughly until evenly blended, about 3-4 minutes by hand.
  2. Add Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper to taste. Mix well until the mixture has a tangy, smoky aroma.
  3. Place a large piece of plastic wrap on the countertop. Spoon the cheese mixture onto the center and shape it into a rough oval or turkey body shape (about 6 inches long) using the wrap.
  4. Pinch off a small chunk from the mixture to form a round ball for the head. Attach it to one end of the body by gently pressing them together. Sculpt a slight beak shape with a small knife or fingers.
  5. Wrap the entire turkey cheese ball tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to firm up the shape.
  6. Spread chopped pecans on a plate. Remove the chilled cheese ball from the fridge and roll it gently in the pecans until well coated, pressing lightly to help them stick.
  7. Use sliced black olives for eyes, placing them on the head portion. Attach thin red bell pepper strips to form the wattle. Arrange celery or carrot sticks at the back to mimic feathers.
  8. Place the turkey cheese ball on a festive platter surrounded by crackers, bread slices, or veggie sticks. Let it come to room temperature for 10-15 minutes before serving.

Notes

Use softened cream cheese for easy mixing. Chill the cheese ball well before coating with pecans to ensure they stick. Let the cheese ball come to room temperature before serving for best flavor. For nut allergies, substitute pecans with crushed pretzels or seeds. Avoid freezing the shaped cheese ball to maintain texture.
