A quick, creamy, and comforting single-serve mac and cheese made in a microwave-safe mug, perfect for busy nights or solo meals.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ¼ cup dry elbow macaroni (about 28g)
  • ¼ cup water (60ml)
  • 3 tablespoons milk (whole milk preferred)
  • ¼ cup shredded cheddar cheese (about 28g)
  • 1 teaspoon butter
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of black pepper (optional)

Instructions

  1. Pour ¼ cup of dry elbow macaroni into a microwave-safe mug.
  2. Add ¼ cup of water to just cover the pasta and stir gently.
  3. Microwave on high for 2 minutes, then stir the pasta to prevent sticking.
  4. Continue microwaving in 1-minute bursts, stirring after each, until pasta is tender but firm (about 5 to 6 minutes total).
  5. Drain any excess water carefully if present.
  6. Stir in 1 teaspoon butter and 3 tablespoons milk to coat the pasta.
  7. Add ¼ cup shredded cheddar cheese, a pinch of salt, and black pepper if using.
  8. Microwave for another 30 to 45 seconds until cheese melts and sauce is creamy.
  9. Stir well to blend everything smoothly and serve immediately.

Notes

Use freshly shredded cheddar cheese for best melting and creamy texture. Stir between microwave intervals to prevent sticking and uneven cooking. Let mug cool slightly before eating to avoid burns. Variations include adding veggies, spices, or using dairy-free milk and cheese alternatives.
