These savory BBQ pulled pork sliders are a quick and easy crowd-pleaser, featuring tender, juicy pork shoulder slow-cooked to perfection and served on soft slider buns with tangy barbecue sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 45 lbs pork shoulder (Boston butt), well-marbled
  • 1 large yellow onion, sliced
  • 45 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 ½ cups BBQ sauce (e.g., smoky variety like Sweet Baby Ray’s)
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1216 slider buns
  • Optional toppings: pickles, coleslaw, sliced jalapeños, extra BBQ sauce

Instructions

  1. Trim excess fat from the pork shoulder, leaving some for moisture. Pat dry with paper towels.
  2. Mix smoked paprika, chili powder, salt, and pepper in a small bowl. Rub all over the pork evenly.
  3. Place sliced onions and minced garlic at the bottom of the slow cooker.
  4. Place the seasoned pork shoulder on top of the onions and garlic.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine BBQ sauce, apple cider vinegar, and brown sugar. Pour half over the pork.
  6. Cover and cook on LOW for 8 hours or HIGH for 4-5 hours until pork shreds easily with forks.
  7. Remove pork from slow cooker and shred with two forks or tongs on a cutting board. Discard large pieces of fat.
  8. Return shredded pork to the slow cooker and mix with remaining BBQ sauce and cooking juices. Stir well.
  9. Lightly toast the slider buns on a griddle or in the oven for 1-2 minutes to prevent sogginess (optional).
  10. Assemble sliders by piling pulled pork onto buns and adding optional toppings as desired.

Notes

For gluten-free, use gluten-free slider buns or lettuce wraps. Toast buns lightly to prevent sogginess. If sauce is too thin, reduce by leaving lid off on HIGH for 15-20 minutes before mixing. Do not rush cooking time to avoid dry meat. Layer onions and garlic under pork for flavor and even cooking.
