Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, stir the warm milk (110°F / 43°C) with the sugar and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-7 minutes until foamy and bubbly.
  2. Mix the dough: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Add the melted butter, egg, and yeast mixture. Stir with a wooden spoon or spatula until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Knead: Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add a little more flour if sticky, but avoid overdoing it.
  4. Let it rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 45 minutes or until doubled in size.
  5. Prepare the filling: Mix the brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. Set the softened butter aside for spreading.
  6. Roll out the dough: Punch down the dough gently and roll it out on a floured surface into a 9×6 inch rectangle.
